This is usually the cable (not the same as a beetle cable.) The OE cables
could not be disassembled for lubrication, but I have occasionally had some
luck dripping heavy oil in the upper end. I have seen some cables that
could be disassembled. If yours can be, you can check the inner wire for
fraying and lube it with a grease that is good for the full range of temps
that your car will see. If it has ANY fraying replace it.
