Sounds like your cable is about to break to me. Just replace
the cable. Lubing it now might make it last a little bit longer but I
am sure it will still break SOONER or later.

Hi folks,
Recently the speedometer on the Fastback has been really annoying. It
makes a loud buzzing noise, starting at about 25mph. The noise increases
its speed with the car. I reached around under the dash and felt the
speedo cable whilst driving(not recommended, btw!) and it was vibrating
like mad. Could I fix this by lubing the cable, or is my speedo on the
way out? Thanks for any help.
Also, another VW sighting on TV: I saw an episode of "Real TV" while
channel surfing. They were talking about a guy from Australia who
converted his bug to an amphibious vehicle to go between Australia and
Tasmania. It looked interesting. Thats all for now. See ya!
