Just got in this E-mail list the other day, it's a great idea. Anyway,
my "m" optional extras list shows a M 630 12 volt system (up to
chassis no. 316 500 000) for models 311-318, 361-368, and
M 633 12 volt system fully suppressed for models 311-318,
361-368 (although I'm not quite sure of the significance of this
option.
Re: "birth certificates" -I mailed a request to the VWAG postfach @
Volkswagenwerk AG, postfach 3180 Wolfsburg 1, Germany, attn: H.
O'Regan (Mrs.) in June of 1987 and asked (if possible) for any info
on my 1973 1600A Notch, this is what I got back-
Dear Mr. Walters'
Thank you for your inquiry.
In connection with your vehicle our records reveal the following
data:

Engine No. T1 060 872
Colour Code 72 72 15
Production Date Feb. 16th, 1973
Delivery Date Feb. 20th, 1973 to Frankfurt, Germany.
In 1973 we manufactured 55.198 type 3 vehicles.
Other than the above information is, regrettably, not available.
Very truly yours,
i.V.
H. O'Regan (Mrs.)
This info was free to me, I used the same postfach two years earlier
for the same info for my
1963 1500N Notch. I'm not sure of the color codes, but my Notch was
painted a metallic brown inside and out which seems to be the
original color. I had also asked if there was any way to tell how
many Notches were made that year, but they said there was no way to
tell from their records. I understood that the postfach address no
longer responded to requests for info due to the large volume. but
that was years ago also. Try it, you never know.
Yes, I do have a 1973 1600A Notch, I live in South Florida, I've had
the car for almost 11 years, and I'm re-restoring it again, this time
for good. It has all the late model goodies, (large tail lights,
long hood, etc.) and alot of features unique to Euro spec Type III's
(low back full reclining seats, fresh air louvers behind the rear
windows, dual carbs instead of FI, no safety beams in the doors, dual
circuit brakes-but no warning light, no seat belts, etc.) I'm still
trying to see if there are any Notches out there with a higher
production #, but no one seems to know. If any does know, post to
the E-mail list, and let me know, I would appreciate it alot.
