The book "How to Tune & Modify Bosch Electronic Fuel Injection" describes this as an "old trick" used by mechanics to get D-Jet to run smoother on a tired engine. Doing this tricks the car into thinking that the engine (well, actually the incoming air) is cold & makes you run richer. Like having a choke part way on. Doing this is most likely masking some other problem. Re: the injector connections... do they have green corrosion on them? They may need cleaning. Also, mine fit loosely; I gently pried them tighter so they'd get better contact. Haven't had problems since. Good luck, -Greg '71 squareback '63 Beetle
