The piece I have is one that fits over the cylinders on the right side, but would require the removal and reinstallation of the cylinder bank on the left side to get under the oil cooler bracket. This piece is about 8 inches long front to back, 4 inches side to side, and kind of looks like a streched out "C" if viewed from the side. It also has two square holes about an inch and a half across. I have seen these pieces mounted on the bottom of the cylinders of a sand rail engine, and am wondering if they are an offroad part that somehow found it's way to my car. These pieces are not mentioned in the Idiot's Manual or in Tom Wilson's book either, nor are they pictured. They also will not fit under the cylinders because of the smaller air deflectors. Someone please help! > I have a 71 Type-III SQB and mine doesn't have anything like what you mentioned on it. My engine was complete when I bought it. The only "C" shaped peace I have is on the top of the engine above the fly wheel, It is well over the 8inches long and 4inches high you had dicribed. I hope I have been of some help to your urgent problem. Good luck with your engine. WOODUP1 an owner of a fine VW Type-III Square Back
