Could you tell me a little bit more about your ex-US Army type 3 Variant? I wonder if it is simply a standard version, or were there any special modifications (like matt green paint, no chrome, M&S tyres, limited slip differential, etc.)? > Hanno Spoelstra <H.L.Spoelstra@WbMt.TUDelft.NL> > Bloemendaal, The Netherlands Hi Hanno, the car was used by the army until 1993. And can`t tell anything else about the use of it. It has none of the options you listed. Actually it doesn`t look like a military vehicle at all. The original color was saharabeige, later it was painted in a dark red. Also, it`s a "L" model and has all the features of it, all chrome trim is there, the bumpers have their horns etc. The wheels were standard 165`s on a set of 4.5 inch chrome rims that I have never seen before, look like the brasilian type rims. Two point "lap" seat-belts were added, that were produced in Chicago. The front seats were replaced by some of an amercian car, no idea which one, but look good and are very comfortable. So it doesn`t look at all like the "Bundeswehr" Variant featured in the book "Die grossen VW". It seems to common for the Army over here to use non-army-looking cars. I have seen lots of Golfs and VW Vans in all kinds of colors, but with an Army licence tag. Roland `69 square `69 TL `69 beetle
