Re: Re[4]: Typical Type III Squareback problems?

O.K. Veedubbers we need some help.

I am searching for the cold start valve for a 1969 Fastback.
the Bosch number is 0 257 900 007. According to the Bosch parts book
a 1969 never came with a cold start valve.

Here's what Muir says:

Will refer you to page 152 of "How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive",
the 4th paragraph down...and because I have nothing better to
do....here it is:

If your car is a 1968-69 Type III, you have either no cold start
system (in which case your friend can crawl out after pushing the
>connector back on the starter) or a modified cold start system. All
models, 1970 and on have a regular cold start system. To check (in
a 1968-69 Type III) if you have a modified cold start system, look
for the relay. It is a little box with wires coming out of it, one
 to
a temperature switch in the intake air distributor and another to a
jet mounted into the intake aire distributor but the clincher is a T
connection mounted into the fuel line making a mess of the fuel
lines between number 1 and number 2 fuel injectors. If you have
 this
extra fuel connection to the cold start jet, find the relay. It has
to be around there somewhere. When you locate it, put your probe
on the terminal marked 85 and the other probe on the extension while
your friend holds the other end of the extension on the connector to
terminal 50 on the starter. It is the wire we are checking, not the
solenoid. If this wire is continuous, the needle will swing to zero.
Your friend can push the connector back on the starter and come up.

That is ALL Muir says about my the cold start system for the whole
     book.....

Questions:
Will the cold start valve from a 1970-above work?

Since the bosch number is no longer any good anyone have the new part number
for a "modified cold start system"?
