Seat covers

I bought covers from Sewfine and the company that makes them for WCM. Both
appeared to be identical, and both fit properly.

BUT, both suffered from the same silly, inexcusable flaw: The small
rectangular panel that forms the rear face of the front seat bottom is made
of basketweave instead of smooth. Would those of you with OLD Type IIIs
please check and see if this was the way they were EVER done? I can't
believe this is right for any VW since the OEM covers I have seen present
smooth vinyl from top to bottom when seen from the back (except for the
headrest on highbacks.)

Can you tell this is a real sore point with me?!?
