I have the temperature sensor with two types of dissimalar metals. I was under the impression that this type is inaccurate due to varying thickness and what Jim pointed out "depends on torque of spark plug" And yes, I agree with Jim that it is really a matter of getting to know your engine and not a game of absolute numbers but of position of your gauges relative to past experience. Sometimes my Oil Light flashes when stopping rather quickly (some jerk pulled out in front of me because he assumed a VW can't go that fast) or turning a corner very fast (we all get in a hurry sometimes). The first time this happened I immediately turned the car off and coasted to a stop. Panic stricken I checked the oil level to find it was at the bottom mark (about 1/2 quart low by my un-scientific calculations). So I put that 1/2 quart in and away I go. So I too have used the blinking oil light as a gentle reminder when I have neglected to check the oil recently. I never seen a VW that didn't leave a least a drop of oil in a driveway. But maybe this works out okay for me since I have my pressure sensor switch located further down the pipe (1-1 1/2 inches higher) than stock because of the oil temperature sensor I have. Anyway just my experience with blinking Oil lights. ------------------------------------- Craig Woolston '70 Sqback and '71 Fastback cwoolsto@ladc.lockheed.com
