All that know and those that dont know me. My 'S' finally reached 1000miles on its new engine very recently (no I dont drive it much) and it is purring like a kitten now. Only problems to date have been the original fuel pump finally died (non standard one in situ until I rebuild the original- no hurry but I will change it) and as soon as it reached its 1000 miles I pulled the rocca assemblies off and installed a set of NOS Sig Erson 1.5:1 rocca assemblies along with the approriate length push rods etc. Now it realy does purr. Not much power change except it pulls even harder up hills in lower gears- a definite torque increase! No I do not have coil bind etc- I check such things. Next change to the engine will be a rebuilt 010 distributor and I have had an eye on a very good SPG 82mm roller bearing crank for a long time now. It would suit this car down to the ground as it doesn't get a thrashing. time will tell. Also finally found an 'O' ring 200mm 6V flywheel so that is waiting to go on to replace the original non 'O' ring flywheel. Yes it has a late X drilled 69mm crank in it now. So there you have it. The engine is truly everything I expected it would be and runs so quiet it baffles people that dont like to do the job correctly the first time. Many of my older VW friends that worked for VW during the '60s smile when they see my 'S' as it is the only one on South Australian roads now. This is the last one rolling around so it gives me a good feeling too. Definately a keeper. almost 9 years later i have put 2 or 3000 miles on it now! Enjoy your classic type 3's, dont hide them! All the best for 1998!
