That would get rid of the rusting-out heater box problems forever. Would someone with some Porsche experience care to respond? How effective are the Porsche heater arrangements? That was the style that VW used in that era also. They switched to the later "fresh air" style in the early 60s; I don't think the type IIIs ever got the older style. The old style was abandoned because the air that cooled the engine was then pumped into the passenger compartment, oil fumes and exhaust gasses (from leaking cylinder heads) included. The new system is better, but it clearly does have the drawbacks that you point out.
