Keep in mind that the PRESSURE is a few psi, but the FORCE on the 
needle depends on what fraction of 1 sq. in. that the needle blocks. 
That force is on the order of .015 lbs for a 2 mm float valve and 3 
psi from the pump.

It's impossible to tell for sure, but that little loop just looks 
like what's often used to make sure the float pulls down when the 
float drops. That would just keep the valve from sticking closed.
