Dave mentioned this. I've always refilled my engines with 3 qts. I just 
looked in Bentley and it says the correct capacity is 5.3 pints. I guess 
I've been overfilling 1/2 qt. for all these years.

BTW,  how do you calibrate the dipstick? That's a new one on me.

At various points in the life of the engine in my Square, it would fog the
town on deceleration if Ive been at highway speeds for a while, mainly with
the second set of heads.  It would do it for a year so then not for a
while... not at startup though.  I attributed it to leaving off the oil
scaper/seals on the valve stems but the past couple years I noticed it
mainly when the oil was filled to the line, which it turns out is OVER full!
At 113K its still fine, and I keep the oil level about half way up and its
full and not smoking.

Maybe your overfilling it without knowing it because the dipstick
calibration is off?
