[T3] What oil is recommended?

<x-flowed>I have a Vw related type of question. I have a 83 bmw 528e. In the 
bentley book it calls for SAE 80, GL-4 rated non-hypoid gear oil.

Now this totally threw me off and not sure what type I should get. The 
shop put ATF in my manual transmission, but this was in the middle of 
winter. Now its getting 100+F outside i dont think i want to run stuff 
this thin.

Any help on this oil question please let me know. Im not sure what a 
Non-Hypoid or a hypoid oil means. or a GL-4 rated.
