I guess part of that might just be me being anal, but there might also be some 
insurance questions that could come up. For example, suppose the car is 
destroyed when the house burns down. There's nothing left to inspect, but the 
owner claims it's a '64 1500S. The insurance company points out that it's a '63 
and couldn't have been an S, therefore it's worth less.

Mostly, I just like things to be accurate.
