[T3] generator strap

I have a stripped fan housing for the generator strap attachment point.
It's also had a crack at that point for many years. What type of thread
insert is best for this application? For the past month I've been using
a Nylon zip tie as an insert, it's working great so farÉ The Helicoil
style doesn't seem as solid with the crack present. I'm looking at a
steel insert with self locking "pins".
Finally, can anyone confirm the M8 screw is 1.0 or 1.25 pitch? I don't
want to mess with the screw to check.
