[T3] Carb Problems
<x-flowed>I've just got my fasty going again after an extended rest. I think I've
fixed the flooding problems she was having by installing slightly thicker
gaskets under the fuel pump to drop the pressure a bit. It think it was
running at too high pressure causing the needle valve to leak and overfill
the bowl causing flooding.
Everything has been recently checked and set on the ignition side. Now she
idles quite happily for long periods without stalling. Idle speed has been
set at 1000RPM (she's an AT) and the carbs synched for flow using the idle
adjusting screws. I have noticed, however, that the idle mixture screws
don't seem to work as they should. The right hand (drivers side) screw does
the following:
1) Screw in - eventually idle speed drops and engine runs rough
2) Screw out - idle speed comes up and engine smoothes out. Further scewing
it out (ACW) seems to make no difference to idle speed
Left hand screw
1) Screw in - all the way in until it bottoms out - makes no difference
2) Screw out - all the way out, makes no difference.
In other words, adjusting the left idel mixture screw makes no difference to
idle speed or engine running.
As I said, she idles and revs quite happily at 1000RPM when the engine is
not loaded ie in neutral or park. But as soon as I put her in R or D, the
revs drop dramatically, she coughs and splutters and doesn't want to move.
If I put my foot down enough, she eventually gets to apoint where suddenly
she surges forward (or backward).
Any ideas what I should check or what might be at fault. I've been through
the carb set up and synch procedure a few times to make sure I didn't make a
mistake, but any suggestions as to things I shoudl double check? At this
stage it's starting to drive me nuts, so any comments or advice would be
most welcome.
