I place my floor jack under the transaxle drain plug, and the stands 
under the outer ends of the torsion tubes.

No. The later E-brake brake boots are slit to allow for adjustment 
without removing the boot. I take the boot off anyway to make it all 
easier to deal with. It just tucks into the opening in the carpet. If 
yours is stuck, it may have been glued in with the carpet by mistake.
