If the case won't come together when torqued, than that case has been
very hot at some time. I would not reuse it.
It can be remachined, but the only one I have see do this successfully
was VW themselves on their rebuilt engines. 
They do make nice bonfires on the 4th of July, but then you are in
Canada :)
