We had a problem a while back concerning other wires connected to the coil -
specifically the reversing light power.  Just check there's nothing else on
terminal 1 apart from ignition and points/condensor wires.

There's a carbon brush in the cap I assume.

You've probably tried a spare spark plug on the end of one (or more) of the plug
leads to see if there's any spark.  Just ground the outer and turn over the
engine.

There's a fair bit of 'teaching grandmother to suck eggs' (UK saying - you've a
similar one I think) -  sorry about that.  We're just trying to save you getting
another coil when it may be OK.  You CAN (rarely) get multiple failures, so it
could be that both coils you've tried are bad.
