One thing to keep in mind is that if you happen to be working on your 
car with the key ON for an extended time, it's always a good idea to 
pull the condensor wire off the coil. This is just in case the points 
happen to be closed. If you leave the wire connected and the points 
happen to be closed, it's amazing how hot that coil can get. 

That can't be good for them, but most seem to survive it.
