I agree that Keith overstated his case. The problem is not that it can't be 
done. The problem is that a successful outcome requires that someone invest a 
lot of time to get the jetting right. The pitfall occurs because too many 
people assume that they can buy the carbs, bolt them on, and drive off happily 
ever after. It's unfortunate that this assumption is widespread, but things 
almost never turn out that way.

Your experience follows the usual pattern, with the exception that you followed 
thru and got things working well. Most people give up. I wish your outcome were 
more typical, but it's not.

It's probably also important to point out that even with the best of care, it 
will be very hard, and probably impossible, to get the emissions down to the 
levels produced by the FI.
