Thanks Jim: I'll have a careful look at the cable for broken strands but I didn't notice any when I was inspecting it. I have to pull the engine anyway because I recently replaced my clutch disk, throwout bearing and main seal but it has started shuddering again when I let out the clutch and I've got a trans oil leak again as well.
