Hope you don't mind, but I'm bouncing this back to the type 3 email 
list because your question is of general interest.

I'm gonna assume that you've done all the normal tuneup things: 
plugs, points, timing, valve lash. You probably haven't checked the 
fuel pressure, but there's no reason to unless you suspect that it's 
been altered.

You didn't say whether this is a new situation or if this car was new 
to you and arrived in this condition. Some history would be helpful. 
The more relevant info you give us the better.

Assuming your '69 was running well before it developed this problem, 
here's your starting point: Get a voltmeter and measure the voltage 
between ground and the battery + terminal with the engine warmed up 
after a drive and running at medium rpm. It should be a bit above 
14V. Let us know what you find.
