Personally, I'd fit the stock rubber replacements available from CIP etc if you can't get original VW ones. They make a huge difference to handling and if they wear quicker than genuine ones, well how often will you need to do it? Most of our cars don't rack up that many miles these days so they will probably last for years.
As a matter of interest, I bought some genuine ones from VW only a few years ago here in the UK. As they are the same as a Beetle, (in spite of the 311 number) they may be still available.

Hunting down good used ones, or NOS [ and wondering if they're good?] is proving
to be more trouble than I have time for, so I think I'm back to the eurothane vs. new replacements
choice.

These are going in my '67 with the darkside 2L, so perhaps that
stresses things more? and when it's working
I like to drive it a lot, and I'm in california, so I don't park it
for half the year. And last I consider that particular job too
much for me, so I pay my mechanic to do it. So, if they
new rubber really goes bad in a year, then I'm concerned,
but if I can get 2 or 3 years before doing the job again,
then I'lld be for the new rubber.

Thoughts?

Also, are these the correct part numbers I should be looking for:

311 511 245
311 511 246

And if the beetles have the same part, does that imply they'll have the same part number?
