The 71 has a PCV valve, and that tube to the filler, and works well but that

The other thing might be that Ive noticed the the Full mark on some of my
dipsticks has been about a half quart overfull, and the 71 will tend to suck
oil if its that high. With a full flow it can be hard to determine just how
much oil the system takes but if your still stock add the 2.5 qts and see
where the oil level falls.

I have a full-flow filter on her and have just been going by the dipstick marks. After I check the valves tomorrow, I will redo the compression check on the 1-2 side and see what I get.
After that I think I might switch back to the standard oil filler tube and add a pinched hose to the downdraft tube and see if that makes any difference. She is also due for an oil change so that will make this a good time to swap the oil filler tube and check the rest of the condition of the engine.
