<x-flowed>If I still lived in San Diego, I would be game.
Re/ Parts in general. A story.
Drove down Baha once, years ago, in some long gone
T-3...something from 70 to 73. Sitting at a
lonesome beach I heard a Karumphhh sound from the
car. Its front end had almost bottomed out. An
unintended Low Rider. A torsion bar in front axle
beam (not in the glove compartment) simply gave out.
Torqued itself in two. Time, and the Mexican
"roads" in that area, were too much for even the
German engineers and Rhur metalurgists.
Limped the car, in mostly just 2nd gear, front end as low as it can go, about 40 miles up to main road where there was a small town with a salvage "yard"...actually, a whole area of desert, with the big cactus, full of wrecks, including a healthy smattering of VWs formerly owned by Calif. Yanks who believed them to be ORVs, I guess.
Thing is...the parts in that dry climate were as pristine as possible...no CRC or WD 40 or Liquid Wrench required to get them off. Long story short...took a torsion bar off a wreck, installed it on my not-yet-wreck, and off I went all the way back to Philly, via Seattle. Don't remember, but...bushings etc must have been ok on either or both my car or the salvage one. And lube grease exists everywhere.
Bright idea was to go down there again and truck
home parts. Not my gig. Maybe somebody else? Will accept discount parts for the idea....if not
done already.
Get in touch. May be willing to go along for the
ride. Sort of a "Treasure of the Squareback Madre"
film concept. Or, hopefully not...remembering how
that adventure turned out.
