Only true if the bellows is there and/or the spring to pull them open. When the bellows fails it expands....opening the flaps (assuming everything else in the system is good). Should the linkage fail some how, the spring should pull the flaps open...assuming it is there.


I recently had the connection between the horizontal rod and the bell crank loosen up. The spring held my cooling flaps open so I did not overheat.

I suggest filing a slot in the end of the pivot shaft for the cooling flaps. That way you can visually check the rotation of the cooling flaps from the top of the engine. You can also see the RH flap if you pop the plug wire retaining clip out of the top tin.
