Makes absolutely no sense. First, make sure the spring is installed as it pulls on the cooling flaps so in the event of a malfunction they default to open. Every piece NEEDS to be there -- luckily there are very few pieces. Second, it doesn't matter if you live on the equator, the engine NEEDS the cooling system intact so it will warm up quickly and get to operating temp AND stay there...which is a lot hotter than you and I can withstand but pretty good for cooking hotdogs. Only full-on racers and those who want to shorten their engine life run without a full engine cooling system. Period.
