Re: [T3] Number 4 issues..

<x-flowed>Yes, bur all these "fixes" were "field" repairs.
You could not buy a Volkswagenwerk AG factory rebuild (with VW AG guarantee -- valid at any VW dealer in the world) this way.

Show me a Volkswagen AG service manual that details the procedure for line boring.

I'm sure line boring is still done by many shops every day -- cheap fixes are hard to let go.

Yes, you're right, the milage is pretty good . . . still, if it's any
indication, VW stopped "reconditioning" cases by line boring very early

not practical to restore cases that had "grown" out of line.
They were using line bored cases up until I quit working at the dealers
in 1979. Don't know about after that. And a lot of the standard cases
were old cases that were cut true and then bored back to standard bore.
On those, you may see shims under the cylinders. to make up for the loss
of width. They also bored the cylinders and installed oversized pistons.
and oversized valve guides, and welded heads.
