Thanks for the response. Indeed, I was both running premium and I live
(and drive) at altitude...homes at 7,000 and 6,400 ft and regular trips
to 9-10K.
And, you are correct that that is thick oil...but remember, that's what
I ended using at 40-50K), not what I broke the motor in with...that was
20W/20W winter oil which has excellent detergent qualities for
break-in. I followed with 10/30 for many miles. And, while I am very
aware that thicker oil is merely an aspirin for cancer, it kept the oil
pressure well within specs for a longer period, clearly at the risk of
slightly lower starting lubrication. But, this is car well garaged and
starts were typically at no less than 50*F. But, you are absolutely
correct in your assumptions about oil, compression ratios and heat.
