I have torn a lot of VW engines down, and have noticed over the years, that if it is a rod bearing failure, it is usually #4. I tore down 8 engines that I bought from one person, and every one of them had a #4 failure. But also something that I notice that was consistant with these engines, was that the oil screen had not been cleaned recently in any of them. The screens had collapsed from the sludge that was in the sump. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) '05 KIA Sorento SUV russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
