<x-flowed>I have a few computers with one of those a 2002 era G3 e-mac and i thought that was old...right before the G4's hit...damn. I am not one of Microsoft's greatest fans, but XP was a significant upgrade from Win2K. Especially for a novice user. Yes, there is a point to be made to "just" accessing the internet, but you would not use a part on your volks that just barely worked would you? No, you would use one that does the best job (rock=hammer?). The same goes for a computer for me which is just a tool. A tool I cannot live without if you take away the internet, but it is just a tool.

Gmail is free as well, and a much nicer interface & setup than Yahoo has IMHO. You can even grab mail from a gmail account with a POPmail program like Eudora or (shudder) Outlook Express. And yes, I've got a metric arseload of gmail invites I can give away too.

Yeah, they still make 'puters that don't run windoze .. though the new Intel-based Macs can boot Windows too -- and this is even without getting into the Linux prospects. LOL. My "new" computer is a 2001-era G3 iMac, scored it at Goodwill for $25.
The important thing is that whatever computer you have allows you to get on the Internet. Because the Internet is where this list is, where we get to talk about Type 3's. So in a six-degrees-of-Bacon way, this might be on topic. :-)
