It's hard to imagine what about a beetle beam would have more appeal. It's 
unfortunate that most VW people don't realize how much better the type 3 beam 
is. It's stronger, wider and more adjustable. It's only disadvantage is its 
relative obscurity.

OTOH, maybe we're lucky that the beetle folks haven't thought to scrounge for 
type 3 beams. That would make good type 3 parts a LOT harder to find.
