What I was throwing out to you guys was since this is one set going out from the fuse box, it has to split some where to go to each fender. could this be the source of a short? >> Since you've found these 2 wires, and you have a VOM, why don't you just check them from end to end and see if you get something near 0 ohms (you'll need a piece of wire about 6 ft long to reach the other end of the wire though). This way you can check to see if you have an open either under the rear fender, or inside the rocker (yes the early cars ran the wiring harness inside the rocker). Also you can get a good look at the bulb holder contacts, and maybe give them a quick clean. This should only take a few minutes to test, and it might end up giving you a good connection for both power to and ground of the lights. This isn't rocket science, you're only working with 2 wires and a ground, and if you seperate the 2 gray's, then you're only working with 1 wire and a ground. I hope this helps.
