Re: [T3] 1600 4 door...

<x-flowed>I have a copy of Simon's book, which is great. He says the Brazilian Type 3s weren't Brasilias and maybe they weren't really Type 3s either. They were based on the VW EA97 prototypes, as Dave has pointed out. The body had a number of things in common with the German Type 3, but despite what Simon's book says the engines in the 4-Portas were the Type 1 upright design, not Type 3 pancakes:

But there were many related Brazilian models that may have had Type 3 engines (as the SP2 sports car did). The rear suspension was swingaxle; not sure if the front end had more in common with Type 1 or Type 3. There was a discussion about the Brazilian models on the list few years ago which led to existential questions about what makes a Type 3 a Type 3.

It's probably more like a type 4 than a type 3. VW do Brazil made a LOT of

Those are VW Brasilias if I remember correctly. They are not Type 3s.

For a fantastic book about odd Volkswagens Simon Glen's "Volkswagens of the World" is highly recommended.
