Something came up with someone who was emailing me off list- his pictures of a late T3 don't show box sections. At first I thought it was part of the repair, and that they had been eliminated, but another pic of a late model shell he had also showed no box section. The pics he was showing me were UK models. So, this begs the question- did European models not have these box sections? I had thought they were a load bearing structure, that they give the front end a little more rigidity because the late nose and bumpers are much heavier than the previous models. Now it's got me thinking- were those box sections for different crashworthy standards for the US? What would be the wisdom of eliminating these box sections altogether and simply welding on a repair panel? What would I be losing? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
