Fuel tanks rust because of humidity or outright water in the tank. >I don't know, I'm only asking...I would feel more comfortable following >through with por-15's gas tank sealer as a final coat because that is what >is designed for and I would trust it more that just the metal ready >alone...... > The zinc phosphate coating will slow rust some, but I'm not seeing it as a rust preventative but rather a rust slower. It's better than nothing. Plus, I wanted to remove whatever rust was still in the tank so it's one less thing to clog the fuel filter. The sealer worries me because there is a passage at the bottom of the bowl inside the tank that could easily get clogged, depending on how thick the sealant is. What's more, where you'd want the sealant to be the thickest (the very bottom of the tank) is the same aforementioned delicate area. And once the sealant is in, it's not coming out and there's no fixing it. Here's a picture of the passage in question: http://www.hallvw.clara.net/gftunks7.gif As you can see, if that gets clogged you're screwed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
