Success!

I rechecked, and the 5k one must have been a mistake, 3 measured 1k.
I replaced the 0 ohm SP connector, with the new one I got from Jim,
and the missing seems to be gone.   Now I can drive it to work again.

The new SP connector was a little longer than the old one.
and shaped slightly different it tapers on the wire side, and
is also a tiny bit thinner. the Air seal flap didn't fit on
quite as snugly.

Still it seemed to solve the problem.
yea! and all without having to catch  my AirCooled parts shop
when it was open.
