Lovely...my windshield is totally smashed...it is on the long list of things to fix....(71 FB...) Jim--you wouldn't happen to know the hull numbers that change started on or some other obvious marker before I shell out a hundred and a half for new glass that does not fit would you? Starting in '71, VW added some extra metal pieces inside the windshield opening, which are supposed to help hold the windshield in place in an accident. While the body opening did not change, the addition of these extra clips made it necessary for the windshield itself to be a bit smaller. The rubber gasket was also changed to grasp the metal pieces. This change was done only for cars exported to the US and a few other markets. For the rest of the world, the windshield stayed the same. I believe that most aftermarket replacement windshields are of the early, larger size. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
