What brands are best? > Best to remove all the tar - you don't know for certain there isn't rust in the hollow bits and it's just stuck on the ribs. A bit of warmth on the underside will help soften the tar - fan heater on high for an hour or two, or a hot air gun for a few minutes waved over each area. If not, leave it cold (the colder it is, the more brittle) and chip it off with a scraper - it'll maybe damage the original paint but you will probably overcoat it with something anyway. Sounds OK - I'd be inclined to remove rust and rub down good paint - there are some quality anti-corrosion materials under the original paint. I don't think the primers would be a problem, but check the instructions anyway. Too late now, but I would have left the coating on the tunnel - it's generally better than anything you'll replace it with. Dave.
