[T3] Restoring Floors
<x-flowed>Good morning all,
I have removed my front seats for reupholstery (going with TMI). I am also
repairing my front floors. All the floors and hump had the same three layers
of
material: black top/white styrofoam/black tar-like material. Here's what I
found:
1. Passenger side: all 3 layers came up easily with a puddy knife. Only
surface
rust, except at the lowest point, where I found 3 coffee-bean size holes.
2. Hump, all three layers came up easily with a puddy knife from all areas
except from
around the heating controls. All metal is intact and still painted original
black.
3. Driver's side: all three layers came up easily with a puddy knife on the
outer
4-5 inches. In the middle, the foam came off, but the tar-like layer is
still fixed
securely.
Questions:
1. Should I go ahead and remove all the securely fixed bottom layer on the
driver's
side?
2. Is there a best practice for retreating floors? Sand to metal, repair
holes (with what?),
POR15, paint, sound deadening, padding? What brands are best?
