14.8V is not that high. Maybe a little out of spec but I wouldnt think
it would cause a problem.
ive had regulators go bad before on me and stop regulating altogether.
that can run up to 18-20V with the rpm up and you can smell the battery
outgassing. smells like rotten eggs or a sulpher spring.

the first time i didnt realize what it was until the battery exploded.
cracked right down one side. the lights had been going dim and bright and
the smell of course, but I just didnt think of it before I got the
surprise. kind of like a head scratcher - something nagging in the back of
the mind and then. BAM a-ha!

the second time I knew right away, the smell the lights getting bright.

Ive got a solid state bosch regulator in there now for quite awhile.
I like it a lot better than the old mechanical ones.
