Hi Al,
Geoff Tunks, the club member who drew the diagrams you saw from his
investigations with his tank also complained that it was a manufacturing problem
that had resulted in the return pipe being too close to the cup that fuel
couldn't get drawn from the tank into the cup by the venturi effect of the flow
of fuel from the return pipe.  Maybe not the identical fault, but I bet you two
aren't the only ones who've come up against this manufacturing problem which
seems to stem from the lack of a proper jig for the return pipe assembly.
Maybe it's just a too-clever design so the assembler doesn't appreciate how it
should fit.
