[T3] Clutch pedal adjustment

Ok, so either I am dumb or perhaps just confused. I hooked up the  
clutch cable and put the pedal cluster in. The manual says to hold  
the clutch cable vertical while installing. Ok, so I did that. But  
then when I let it go it falls back on the floor and releases the  
cable. What keeps this from happening? I looked at the pics in the  
manual and I've got the spring in the correct place. Somehow there  
has to be a way of stopping the clutch pedal from falling backwards.
