I think there is only one kind of Marvel, with dual carbs get a helper. measure out say 1/8 cup per side and pour it in both sides at the same time, then as soon as you hear the engine react shut it off or pull the points wire from the coil. Do this on a cold engine so the oil wont merely evaporate off the valves. Downsides.... none that Im aware of other than maybe fouling the plugs if they were dirty to start with but that wasnt a problem for me. The usual disclaimers apply but the only problem I could think of is having a large chunk of carbon loosen and get cought between the piston and cylinder when working its way through.
