How about measuring the actually boiling water with a > turkey or candy thermometer to see exactly what you've got? Yup, that's exactly how I test water coooled engine thermostats. I was having a cooling system issue with my wife's truck, and confirmed the OE-spec 160 deg. thermostat was popping open at 190. I stuck it in a pot of boiling water with my remote digital thermometer (the one I use for roasts) and watched this happen. I had changed the thermostat anyway, but this was merely to confirm my suspicions. I conducted the experiment 3 times to confirm the results. A good remote digital thermometer and a candy thermometer are good tools to have at your disposal for car repair issues. Just keep 'em separate if you use 'em on chemicals. I'd hate to put automotive chemicals in a roast. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
