So, I think I get it. A main harness does not contain much and I

When I did the wiring harness for my 65 Notch, I used a complete used one
from a 71 Square (front, dash and main harness). This allowed me to add the 4 way
flashers, 2 speed wiper motor, and the extra ground wires that came in 68.
The only problem with going this route, was that it added the wires for the FI
that I wasn't using at the time (maybe in the future). This really isn't a
problem, but it does add them into the diameter of the main cable. When I did
mine, I ran the harness to the rear inside the car along the heater channel like
the later cars do, rather than trying to get it to pass thru the rocker like it
would when stock. I had to slightly open up the hole to pass the harness back
out to go over the rear tire well, but it wasn't a problem, in that it only
needed a little bit of opening.
When we did my son's car (a 65 also), we used a complete bug harness, and ran
it the same way. I think the only wire we had to do anything to was for the
starter, as it was a little too short. We ran it similar to mine (inside the
car), but then the rear half of his car is a little different than any "normal"
type3. :O I hope this helps.
