Re: Accelerator pump dribble

<x-flowed>If there is a dribble from the pump jets after the pedals released, it is likely to be in the return springs in the pumps or stiff diaphragms as they rely on those springs to reset against the actuating lever. I'd have thought it was unlikely that partially blocked jets were causing a build up of pressure which oozes out afterwards, because the tube that goes down into the float chamber is not sealed against the top, so any pressure is likely to just drip back into the float chamber, not dribble out of the jets.

My carbs seem to be allowing a dribble through the nozzles when the accelerator is released, so the engine takes a while to slow down again after a buirst of acceleration - I suspect blocked nozzles, but it might be some other problem, as the CO level doesn't change much from about 1.8% even when adjusting the mixture screw, yet the exhaust smells strongly - perhaps we've other problems - valves maybe? Everything's pointing towards some investigative surgery really.

The hose was the black braided German stuff,

The black braided stuff is mostly a cheap rip-off - I don't think it is made in Germany. Sadly, VW don't supply the braided style these days.

Nominally 7mm for FI and 5mm for carb, but with clips you can go to the next
Imperial size up.

That stuff is really bad... very "Ungerman" I use Gates 5/16" hose, it lasts about 10 years

The hose was the black braided German stuff,

which I never thought was for FI but the place I
bought it from said it was. Now that I have to replace
this stuff again I want something strong that will
last a while.
