Good point, but I think we can rule this out since the oil cooler was put in after this happened the first time (not as a remedy for this problem, of course ;). I have taken care to make sure the line doesn't touch the transmission or the heater boxes anywhere, and that it isn't pinched at the grommet.

By the way, if anyone needs to replace that grommet at the sheet metal, I got mine from one of those generic "Help!" kits from a FLAPS that has various size grommets. The largest one in the pack is an exact fit.

I doubt if it's anythink like a "weakness" in the pump. If it's a
pump flaw, then I'd suspect a bit of dirt in one of the valves, which
is something that can be cleaned out.

Sounds like it's time to pull the pump and inspect. Not sure exactly what I'm looking for, so I'll scope out the relevant sections in my Bentley and Haynes. It's one of those Brosol Brazilian units.
